A major road between Leyland and Lostock Hall is set to see four months of traffic disruption as roadworks linked to the new Lancashire Cricket centre take place.

Lancashire County Council has announced Staninfield Lane between the A582 and Fowler Lane will have no access southbound from Lostock Hall and the A582.

The northbound section is due to remain open for the duration of the works which begin on Tuesday 26 August.

Work is expected to last into December – and the closure was due to take place this summer but was put back and will also take longer than expected, but the county council say a full closure has now been avoided by the revised scheme.

The roadworks are needed to create the entrance for the new Lancashire Cricket facility which is due to become the Red Rose’s second home after Old Trafford.

Cabinet member for economic development and growth, county councillor Brian Moore, said: “This is an important step in the creation of Lancashire’s new cricket facility and will bring significant improvements to the local infrastructure.

“Many members of our own highways team who will be carrying out this work are also from the local area, which has helped in planning this work.

“If you’re travelling this route, please plan ahead and factor in how it might affect your journey.”

The new cricket centre is due to see its first matches in Spring 2026.
