A man has been arrested after a 52-year-old was found dead at a home in north-west Melbourne.

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating after the man's body was discovered at a property on Porter Street in Templestowe about 5.20am today.

A 54-year-old man from Pascoe Vale was arrested at the home and remains in custody.

Police believe the men are known to each other.

One neighbour told 9News they heard some "banging" about 5am.

Vision of the home shows a smashed window and broken glass on the patio.

Detectives remained at the scene this evening.
