Plans for 125 houses to built on Goosnargh farmland would change the face of the village forever, local councillors have warned.
Blog Preston reported earlier this month how planning permission for the proposed estate – on the edge of Goosnargh – has been rejected on two previous occasions, but a slightly modified version was now back on the table.
Gladman Developments wants to build 125 properties on land north of Whittingham Lane – a reduction from the 145 that the firm has previously suggested.

But in a searing attack on the proposals in its formal response to the application, Whittingham Parish Council cites numerous objections to the plans, ranging from its impact on ecology and flood risk in the area, to the lack of sustainability and pressure more homes would put on school places, rural transport links and village utilities.
It adds: “The Parish Council has little confidence that Gladman’s fully understand that Goosnargh is a small, rural village with limited amenities – which will already be stretched by the new homes being built as part of the strategic development at Whittingham hospital.
“Residents do not want or need additional housing in this location, as it will alter the character of the village forever.
“For the above reasons Whittingham Parish Council strongly opposes this application.”
The proposals, which are recommended for refusal when they come up at the next meeting of Preston City Council’s planning committee on 7 August, have also prompted wider concerns about their impact on primary and secondary education provision in the area, and whether there is adequate public transport links to cope with the extra homes.
