Avon Valley Pumpkin Patch has opened up with its authentic ‘pick your own’ patch bursting with thousands of pumpkins in every colour, shape and size. That’s only the beginning, though, with everything from roaming characters and fiery performances to quirky autumn games like apple cannons, pumpkin paintball and slingshots.

But it’s not just for kids! This dog-friendly experience features its own pop-up pub, The Pumpkin & Firkin, which serves warming drinks and seasonal treats. Additionally, when the sun sets, from Friday, October 3, the pumpkin patch transforms into a glowing wonderland of fairy lights, lanterns, and illuminated pumpkins for Pumpkin Patch Nights.

Celebrate Bristol’s rich maritime history at the Docks Heritage Weekend. You’ll find activities for all ages at M Shed, Underfall Yard, the SS Great Britain, and Brunel’s Other Bridgeincluding tours of the docks and bridges, a sound and light installation in the underfall sluices, and even traditional printing and knot-tying workshops. There is also an opportunity to explore M Shed’s renowned collection of historic maritime equipment, including the world’s only functioning Stothert & Pitt travelling cranes. 5. Starter for Ten

After last year’s record-breaking run, Starter for Ten is back at the Bristol Old Vic (September 10 to October 11). This Bristol-based, coming-of-age comedy musical is all about love, class and the legendary British quiz show ‘University Challenge’. Set in the 1980s, the new musical features an original soundtrack inspired by the riotous student scene of the era – composed by queer, pop-punk composers Tom Rasmussen and Hatty Carman.
