Driver flips car and flees scene at Grimsargh Bridge

Police are hunting the driver of a car which flipped while trying to skip the queues at Grimsargh Bridge.

A black Ford is blocking part of the road on the approach to Skew Bridge on the Grimsargh side of Preston Road.

The crash took place around 9.30pm on Friday (12 September).

Eyewitnesses at the scene told Blog Preston said they saw the car attempt to overtake a car in front, hit the kerb near St Michaels primary school and overturn showering glass and debris into the road.

One eyewitness said: “We were settled down watching TV and there was this almighty bang, we looked at the doorbell cam and saw this car overturned.

“And there was a police car a couple of cars back in the queue for the traffic lights so they were straight onto it.

“There’s been drones up and everything trying to work out where the guy has gone. He was off as soon as that car flipped, straight out of it.”

The driver fled the scene, leaving a woman in the car who had minor injuries.

A police manhunt is underway for the driver of the Ford who fled the scene towards Ribbleton.

Blog Preston visited the scene at 10pm on Friday as police continued to try and direct traffic over the bridge which is currently subject to roadworks until Spring next year due to the bridge widening project. The car had not been recovered at this stage and remains blocking part of Preston Road.
