Electronic display boards at bus stops are coming back to Preston and Lancashire.

Lancashire County Council is putting the screens back on to give live bus info.

The boards work by taking location data from the bus and calculating the expected arrival time at the stops.

Real-time displays were put in across Preston and South Ribble but discontinued in 2011 due to cutbacks.

The Reform-run county council says funding through the Bus Service Improvement Plan is switching them back on after more than a decade.

Cabinet member for highways and transport county councillor Warren Goldsworthy said: “We’re pleased to see the return of live bus arrival displays in Preston, which marks another step forward in making public transport more accessible, reliable, and user-friendly for our residents.

“This technology helps passengers plan their journeys with confidence, and its reintroduction reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the experience of bus travel across Lancashire.

“We’ll continue working closely with communities and operators to deliver better services, more frequent journeys, and smarter infrastructure – ensuring public transport remains a viable and attractive option for everyone.”

59 bus stops are due to receive the real-time displays with a further 100 planned to be upgraded in 2026.

Here’s every bus stop in Preston, South Ribble and Longridge due to get the real-time bus info boards.
