A New Hall Lane fried chicken joint was slapped with a zero food hygiene rating after an inspection uncovered a significant mouse infestation.
Food safety officers from Preston City Council made a second visit to Angry Chicken on 8 July this year after a previous visit on 28 May resulted in a one out of five rating.
The second inspection found that the takeaway had a significant mouse infestation with evidence of mouse droppings on the food contact surfaces, equipment, inside the cling film box, on the pizza boxes, on the shelving and on the floor.
The business was given a list of work that must be completed in order to comply with the law – with a warning by Preston City Council that enforcement notices would follow if things did not improve.
Part of that included the disposal of all contaminated food, film and boxes which cannot be cleaned.

The business was told to clean all surfaces and apply suitable sanitizer. They were also told that any food and equipment should be protected by placing them in suitable containers.
As part of the improvements, Angry Chicken must also take all reasonable precautions to prevent food pests – such as rats, mice and cockroaches, gaining entry to food preparation and storage areas.
At the time of inspection, there were access points by the back door, around the ventilation and even ill-fitting plug sockets where mice could enter the premises.

The initial visit on 28 May found that ‘the premises was generally poor and poorly run’.
Blog Preston contacted Preston City Council to see if the improvements had been successfully implemented. At the time of publication, the business still has a zero food hygiene rating.
Blog Preston was unable to reach Angry Chicken for comment.
The majority of businesses in Preston have a five out of five food hygiene rating and around 95% of them have a score of at least three.
