A group of people in Preston are opening their gaming space to new members to join in and socialise.

The group, Preston Contrat Bridge Club, aims to help people in Preston socialise and keep their brains active by playing the duplicate bridge game.

With meet ups at St Walburge’s Centre, the group’s membership has significantly dropped since the pandemic, but it still offers lessons to the public.

The card game is taught to the group by volunteers and provides a space for sixty people per week.

With the group forming 70 years ago, they play four-times-a-week, with an aim to train players from beginners on the unique game.

Prior to the pandemic, their membership hosted up to 128 people per week to play, whereas now it’s around 60.

Veronica Petrie, the trustee of the registered charity, oversees the education for the club.

She said the first lesson with the club is free with no commitment, with a beginners class starting on 30 October at 1pm.
