Volunteers help transform Winckley Square though Blitz Gardening event

Winckley Square Gardens was filled with volunteers earlier this month during their Blitz gardening event.

With the aim of making a positive impact on the city centre gardens, AtkinsRéalis, an engineering firm based on the square, partnered with Westinghouse to organise this volunteering day.

The team of volunteers also included teams from FWP Architects and Harrison Drury Solicitors, along with Friends of Winckley Square.

Steve Harrison, Winckley Square CIC, thanked all those who worked so hard to make it happen.

Steve said: “It was a brilliant day, characterised by enthusiasm, commitment, and a real ‘Can-Do’ attitude, underpinned by a sense of teamwork. We’ve already had messages of appreciation from those who use the Gardens.”

With tools donated from both Wickes and Friends of Hurst Grange Park, who loaned and donated garden tools to help contribute to their transformation of the space.

The event also doubled as a celebration of the Green Flag Award for 2025, awarded in July for the ninth consecutive year, as the businesses witnessed the flag flying high above the gardens.

Ian Wilson, Portfolio Director at AtkinsRéalis, based in OneCoWork, said: “It was a really rewarding day. 

“Everyone enjoyed giving some time to support an important community initiative and making a difference to the local environment where we work.”
