The clocks ‘fall back’ on Sunday, October 26, so 8am becomes the new 7am, giving you an extra hour in bed. The bad news is that sunset will happen a lot earlier than you might expect, but just enjoy the lie-in.

2. Horror In The Caves/Forbidden Worlds Film Festival

What is Halloween about if it isn’t watching scary movies? Bristol Film Festival heads deep into Bristol’s spookiest site with a collection of the scariest movies imaginable this weekend. The most twisted among you might even want to see the caving-expedition-gone-wrong horror, The Descent at Redcliffe Caves (on Thursday, October 23 and Sunday, 26). But you can also catch Late Night With the Devil, The Substance, Final Destination, A Quiet Place, and more. If that wasn’t enough, horror fans should head to the former Bristol IMAX for Forbidden Worlds Film Festival (October 24 & 25) with a selection of retro ‘popcorn horrors’—from cult classics to obscure genre films!

3. Circus City

Run away with the circus (from October 9 to 30) with a mix of bold physical theatre performances and workshops. Circus City celebrates Bristol as “the UK’s city of circus”. Events this weekend include: Heka’s blurring of magic and juggling at 1532 Performing Arts Centre (Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25); a fight between a dancer and aerialist tethered together in How a Spiral Works // Artat Circomedia (Friday, October 24 and Saturday, October 25); juggling workshop with Sean Gandini and Kati Ylä-Hokkala at The Trinity Centre (Saturday, October 25); and a creative listening and self-care workshop with Ziggy Slingsby at The Albany Centre (Sunday, October 26).

The South West’s award-winning scream park, FEAR Scream Park, is back with a mix of immersive horror theatre and classic fun-fair thrills. With a festival-style atmosphere, this year’s scream park is the scariest thing imaginable in Bristol this Halloween! And, on Saturday, October 25, tweens (11 – 15 year olds) can enjoy FEARless, a toned-down version of four mazes, no direct scares and a more playful, spooky tone. It’s a way for younger scare fans to experience the world of FEAR during half term.

5. Avon Valley Pumpkin Patch

For littler ones, Avon Valley Pumpkin Patch has also opened up with its authentic ‘pick your own’ patch bursting with thousands of pumpkins in every colour, shape and size. That’s only the beginning, though, with everything from roaming characters and fiery performances to quirky autumn games like apple cannons, pumpkin paintball and slingshots. But Halloween isn’t just for kids! This dog-friendly experience features its own pop-up pub, The Pumpkin & Firkin, which serves warming drinks and seasonal treats.
