The last time I had visited The Harris was when I was around 10-11 years old.

I could remember what the peace and quiet was like before it closed which is what made me want to return there, and it can just be a nice place to go to if you want to get out of the house.

I came to the Harris with my friends, Fatima and Syrah, to revise for upcoming exams.

My Dad was able to drop me off from where we live in Moor Park, and pick me up afterwards on a Sunday around lunch time, it was quite busy but the reading rooms were still calm and peaceful.

While you can tell it is definitely brand new, the overall atmosphere is still the same as before it closed and it is good to see it hasn’t been modernised as some people may have thought.

The layout has changed from the library and cafe being on the first floor to multiple reading rooms around the museum.

The room I was in had bookshelves up against one wall across from paintings and a large table with computers, giving people space to read or study. There were large windows with small, round tables if anyone wanted to relax and look outside, although that day protests had been happening which disrupted the relaxed atmosphere but inside the workers and people where nice and friendly so the experience wasn’t ruined too much and I know that any other day it would have been easier to enjoy.

Even if your main goal isn’t to see the museum, you still need to walk through it, allowing you to see different fossils and statues that you may not have realised where there before.

I don’t usually go into town as the things to do are also very expensive, and as a teenager this means I usually spend most of my time at home so I am happy the Harris is now finally open.

I would love to go back, not just for revision, but also because it can just be a nice day out with family.
