Penwortham Girls’ High School is looking forward a new chapter as construction continues on their brand-new school.
The project, part of the Department for Education’s national School Rebuilding Programme, will replace the current school, which was built in 1954 with a sustainable, purpose-built environment designed for ‘modern learning’.
The three-storey, L-shaped building will feature a sports hall, activity studios, dining and assembly halls, bright classrooms, and a new reception area.
The new building will also include a modern library, new staff spaces, and energy systems designed to make the building carbon neutral.
Outdoor sports facilities and open green spaces will be retained and enhanced, creating a vibrant, environmentally responsible new school.
Work is now progressing well on site after the ceremonial ground-breaking ceremony in July.

The next major milestone will be a special Steel Signing Ceremony on 22 October, where students, staff, and guests will have the opportunity to leave their mark—literally—on the new school’s steel framework before it is enclosed.
Mrs Sharon Hall, headteacher of the school, said: “This new building will transform opportunities for our students, but what makes Penwortham Girls so special – our values and ethos – will move with us.
“It will be a new home where compassion, resilience, and ambition continue to flourish.”
Construction will continue throughout the year with completion expected by the end of 2026.
