The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it is disappointed by the decision of the High Court in Johannesburg to grant controversial businessman Katiso ‘KT’ Molefe bail.
The court has granted Molefe R400 000 bail, overruling a previous order by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in August this year.
Judge Brad Walness says the lower court’s decision to deny Molefe bail was based on speculation.
Molefe had been arrested for his alleged involvement in the 2023 murder of Oupa Sefoka, commonly known as DJ Sumbody.
NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane says, “Today’s verdict is one that is disappointing. We did not expect such an outcome. However, as the NPA, we are bound by the decision of the court. Going forward it’s for us to study the judgment. Because we still hold the view that the lower court has actually considered all the facts that were presented before it.”
