A health and safety training firm based just outside of Preston has been recognised at a major utilities industry award ceremony.
Hills Safety and Training Services, based at Whitestake, beat the competition at the Energy and Utility Skills Conference and Awards 2025 to win the ‘Training Provision of the Year Award – for Micro/Small training organisations (two to 50 employees)’.
The business delivers health and safety and specific utility training and its owner, Stephen Hills, started operating as a sole trader out of the back of a van 14 years ago while also holding down a full-time job.

He has built up the business up since then and it became a limited firm three years ago, when he also added Kate Legg as a full time member of staff. The pair are also joined by Olivia Wright, who is part time while studying at the University of Lanacshire.
The award recognises the delivery of either an in-house or training provider led training provision which has delivered positive impact on learning experience, professional development or personal performance. The training provision must have taken place in the last 12 months to be eligible.
