The reigning ICC World Test Champions, South Africa’s Proteas have scored a famous victory at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, beating India by 30 runs in the first test. Proteas captain, Temba Bavuma, scored the only half century of the match, an unbeaten 55 to take South Africa from 93 for seven overnight to 153 all out in their second innings.

That left the home team with a challenging target of 124 for victory on a surface that will probably receive a negative rating from the International Cricket Council. With Indian captain Shubman Gill unable to bat due to an injury, the Proteas bowled out India for 93 in 35 overs. Off-spinner Simon Harmer took four for 21 in 14 overs for a match-haul of eight wickets.

It’s South Africa’s first test victory in India in 15 years and they take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
