Hundreds of scooter enthusiasts from Preston and beyond came together for this year’s annual Preston & District Scooter Selection Box Run.
The festive ride-out, which sets off from Walton-le-Dale’s Yew Tree pub, goes to the Children’s Clinic at the Royal Preston Hospital.
Once there, participants, many dressed in Santa costumes, drop off selection boxes, toys, books and other gifts, which are then shared among young patients in hospital or attending Children’s A&E or other hospital clinics in both Preston and Chorley over the festive period.

The scooter selection box run is a tradition dating back more than 20 years. It was started by members of Preston Wild Cats Scooter Club, with scooterist Norman Hunter then stepping in to take over almost a decade ago.
Hunter said: “We have both scooter club members and individuals from throughout Lancashire joining us for the run.
“It’s a special day. We are hosted very well by the team at the Yew Tree. They really look after us and even put on a special scooter menu for us. We then all ride together to the children’s clinic.”

Joanna Allitt, fundraising manager for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity (LTHC), which accepted the gifts on behalf of young patients, said:
“Seeing all the scooters, many of which are decorated with tinsel and other Christmassy things, turn up en masse is really quite a spectacle in itself.
“This year, we received 350 selection boxes as well as lots of other presents. The scooter run brings joy not only to patients but also to hospital staff, highlighting community spirit and generosity at Christmas.”
