Political analyst Professor Susan Booysen says it is almost impossible for the African National Congress (ANC) to revive its old ideology of activism and nationalism.
Professor Booysen was speaking to SABC News on the sidelines of the party’s 5th National General Council in Boksburg on the East Rand.
She argues that careerism has become deeply entrenched among party officials and members, making a return to those values unlikely.
Booysen doubts that the State of the Organisation Address will convince delegates to embrace activism, despite its strong tone.
Her comments follow ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa‘s scathing organisational report delivered on Monday, covering developments since the party’s 55th Elective Conference in December 2022.
ANC NGC Day 2 | Prof Susan Booysen weighs in
ANC Chairperson Gwede Mantashe has moved to clarify the socialist concept of the National Democratic Revolution, insisting that it’s led by the ANC and not its alliance partner, the South African Communist Party.
The second day of the NGC is dedicated to policy discussions, with delegates breaking into 10 commissions.
Mantashe reaffirms ANC as sole leader of National Democratic Revolution
