Multiple homes on fire as bushfire rips through NSW Central Coast suburb

Multiple homes have been damaged or destroyed as an out-of-control bushfire bears down on part of the NSW Central Coast, about an hour north of Sydney.

Locals in Nimbin Road in Koolewong, between Gosford and Woy Woy, are being told to leave as a bushfire burns out of control on a sweltering day in the state with temperatures close to 40 degrees.

Footage shows multiple large homes on fire next to the train line and the shore.

The fire is burning south behind Glenrock Parade towards Lara Street, the RFS said.

Residents in Nimbin Road, Glenrock Parade, Lara Street and Nimala Avenue have been warned to leave now and go towards Woy Woy if the path is clear.

The fire has also spread across Woy Woy bay into the Woy Woy Bay Road and Phegans Bay area late this afternoon, the RFS said.

Locals there should take shelter.

An evacuation centre has been set up at Gosford RSL Club on the Central Coast Highway in West Gosford.

Video shows the inferno tearing through at least four homes adjacent to the train line.

Brisbane Water Drive is closed in both direction between The Boulevarde at Woy Woy and Glenrock Parade at Tascott/Point Clare.

Trains cancelled by bushfire

Trains on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line have been cancelled between Gosford and the Hawkesbury River due to the fire.

Transport NSW warned trains on the line may stop at platforms or between stations for longer than normal.

Replacement buses have been ordered but are not yet on site, Transport NSW said.

Passengers are advised to allow plenty of extra travel time, listen to announcements and check information displays for service updates.

Dozens of bushfires and grassfires are burning across the state.

A watch and act remains in place for a fire at Bulahdelah , which has burned through more than 2500 hectares since starting on Thursday.

'Too late to leave': Inferno tears through bushland in the Hunter Valley 

Locals in part of the rural Goulburn River National Park have been told to take cover as a large bushfire burns through the Merriwa River valley.

It's too late to leave for residents in Baerami, Baerami Creek, Widden, Yarrawa and Kerrabee have been told it is too late leave, the RFS said.

They've been told to seek shelter inside a solid structure, like a house, as firefighters and a waterbombing plane try to slow the spread of the fire.

People in nearby Worondi Creek Road are advised to enact their bushfire survival plans and prepare.

Those in Sandy Hollow, Giants Creek and Gungal should monitor conditions.

The blaze is more than 9000 hectares in size.

Evacuation centres are open at Merriwa RSL Club, Merriwa Showground which has space for animals and cattle, Denman RSL Club and Denman Pony Club.

Bylong Valley Road is closed to all except local traffic between Sandy Hollow to Bylong Village.

Major roads, including the Golden Highway, may close at short notice, the RFS says.

Temperatures across NSW are soaring today, with parts of Sydney nudging past 40 degrees.

Penrith in Sydney's west recorded a scorching high of 41.7 degrees just before 3pm.

Conditions at Sydney Airport reached 39.2 degrees at 12.30pm.

Extreme fire danger is forecast for much of the Hunter Valley, Greater Sydney, Illawarra and Central Coast regions.
