A house in Fulwood has marked the festive season with their sixth light display, switched on by the Mayor of Preston.

Lighting up Heaton Mount Avenue in Fulwood on Sunday brought two hundred people to gather around the shining lights and the ceremonial firework display.

Simon Hodge, event organiser, alongside his wife Denise, talked about why he and his wife carry on this tradition each year.

But this wasn’t the only reason for the continuation of the display.

Simon said: “It is so nice to give back to the community, and since we started it has definitely got bigger every year, and we have made it bigger.”

Simon said he starts in September with the woodwork for the lights to be placed on and that he bought some more the morning of the light switch on, “just in case.”

The bright night invited the community to enter a charity tombola, listen to Christmas carols by St Michael’s choir and enjoy mulled wine and hot chocolate with a bar van.

Santa Claus annd a snowman, were present at the event along with neighbours of Simon and Hodge.

With the event extending over three houses this year, and described as bigger and better than ever, one of the couple’s neighbours spoke about her thoughts on this year’s light display.

One Heaton Mount Avenue neighbour told Blog Preston: “It is amazing here, and the atmosphere lasts for a whole month.

“We all help each other along the street, and my boys help put up some of the lights when it is too heavy.”

The lights are on until New Years and are ongoing from 4pm until 10pm every night.
