The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) says it will be on standby to help animals left in distress as a result of fireworks on New Year’s Eve.

The SPCA held a joint safety operation with Johannesburg Emergency Management Services and Johannesburg Metro Police Department to enforce By-Laws as residents prepare to usher in the New Year.

SPCA Inspectors Manager Xolane Mncube says inspectors are on standby 24/7 to respond to animal emergencies

“What we do as SPCA we have inspectors on standby 24 hours so if there is any emergency the animal that is injured that needs to be rescued, they can call their local SPCA and we will respond and much as possible to rescue the animal. If it is injured, we take them to SPCA so that they are not neglected or anything like that.”
