Audiences in Chorley are being invited to support new musical theatre next month.

British musical, Now Hiring Joy, will move into its first concert staging in January at Chorley Theatre’s Studio.

Created by Chris King, with music by composer Thomas Madill and creative consultancy from Kieran Smith, Now Hiring Joy is an original musical that blends satirical wit with heartfelt music. It’s described as being a show for anyone who has ever felt trapped in the grind or faced career burnout and anxiety.

The story follows James Joy, a man who has everything his career promised – the salary, the status, the corporate skyscraper to build. But when a near-death encounter drags him into an amateur theatre group, he discovers that life isn’t about promotions or PowerPoints; it’s about singing out loud, messing up, and finding joy in the moment.

Chris said: “Now Hiring Joy is hilarious, uplifting, and ultimately about the courage to step off the treadmill and start living.

“By attending, you can help us bring the show to life and prove there’s an audience hungry for new, homegrown musicals. You’ll be supporting the creative team to demonstrate demand for this work as we seek further funding.

“At this stage, we’re really focused on sharpening the material, so having feedback on what’s landing and what needs work would be incredibly valuable.”

Now Hiring Joy will be performed at Chorley Theatre’s Studio on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 January. Seating is unreserved, and the show is broadly PG, with mild language but a family-leaning tone. Tickets are available from the Chorley Theatre website.
