Dragonfly International Film Festival saw a successful launch with a sold-out screening and awards presentation at The Continental in Preston.
The inaugural edition of the festival, which took place on Saturday 7 March, recognised outstanding achievements in independent filmmaking.
Hosted by broadcaster and presenter John “Gilly” Gillmore, the evening brought together filmmakers, creatives, and film enthusiasts. Guests travelled from across the UK to attend the event, making the journey from as far away as Glasgow, London and Suffolk.
Attendees enjoyed an atmosphere of celebration, networking, and creative exchange as the festival honoured emerging and established talent alike.

Festival organisers John Corrin and Susan Moffat described the sold-out launch as an encouraging start for what they hope will become a major platform for independent storytellers.
“The response to our very first festival event has been incredible,” they said. “Seeing the venue completely full, and welcoming filmmakers and guests who travelled long distances to be part of the evening, really highlights the passion within the independent film community. It also shows there’s a strong appetite for independent cinema, and for a new festival like Dragonfly.”
John and Susan are already looking ahead to expanding the festival and welcoming even more filmmakers and audiences in future editions.
