A spell of cold temperatures is likely to cause an impact to health and social care services, according to an amber cold-health alert issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).
The warning, in place for Preston and the wider North West region, says that there is likely to be a rise in deaths among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions.
It adds that there may also be an impact on younger health groups.

The UKHSA warns that it will be ‘challenging’ to keep indoor temperatures at the recommended 18C level and that there could be staffing issues in health settings due to travel delays.
The warning is in place from 8pm on 28 December until midday on 5 January.
The Met Office is forecasting that temperatures in Preston will be -5C overnight on Tuesday (30 December) and -3C on Saturday (3 January).
There are currently no weather warnings in place from the Met Office, although its regional forecast indicates that the weather will mostly be cold but settled.
