Preston saw its first snow of 2026 with most of the city and the surrounding boroughs getting a light dusting.
A Met Office weather warning for snow and ice is in place from midday on Sunday (4 January) until midday on Monday (5 January) covering for majority of Lancashire, although the northern part of Lancaster is not included.
It quickly became slippery on pavements underfoot as the snow began to settle, although it soon subsided on Sunday afternoon.

But further snowfall, maybe as a wintry mix, is forecast between 5pm and 7pm which is likely to be a potential slip hazard afterwards.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Snow showers are expected to push further inland across Wales, parts of northwest England, the West Midlands and southwest England during Sunday afternoon and evening. Along windward coasts, some rain and sleet is likely, but inland showers will fall as snow.
“Whilst not all locations in the warning area will see snow, 1-3 cm could develop in many places by Monday morning, with the potential for 5-8 cm to build up in a few locations, particularly across inland and higher parts of Wales. Icy stretches are likely to form widely.”
