A celebration of African culture is coming to Penwortham.

The African Groove will take place on Saturday (31 January) from 4pm to 10pm at African Village in Priory Lane.

The event celebrates African culture through music, food, dance, fashion, spoken word, games and live performances.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

  • 4pm: Guest welcome, opening announcements and afro-lounge music
  • 4.30pm: Afro groove dance warm-up
  • 5pm: African flavours spotlight (chef’s picks and featured menu highlights)
  • 5.30pm: Interactive games – afro trivia and know-your-song
  • 6pm: Afro fashion spotlight and cultural style showcase
  • 6.20pm: Food eating competition
  • 6.50pm: Arts, spoken word performances and cultural expressions
  • 7.15pm: Live artiste performance
  • 7.45pm: Fun groove games – afro-musical chairs, dance freeze
  • 8.15pm: Community connection moment – storytelling, proverbs and shout-outs
  • 8.30pm: Peak lounge groove: DJ-led afrobeats and amapiano dance set
  • 9.30pm: Final games highlights, best dancer moment and prize giveaways
  • 10pm: Wind-down lounge music and closing appreciation

Organiser Dr. AKP said: “We believe this event reflects the vibrant, multicultural spirit of Preston. We can’t wait to bring together people of all backgrounds to connect and celebrate cultural diversity.”
