Primary school in Goosnargh closed due to roads around site not being gritted

A school in rural Preston will be closed on Monday due to safety concerns relating to the snowy weather.

Preston saw its first snowfall on Sunday (4 January) with surfaces around the region quickly becoming slippery when it started at around 3pm.

In addition, temperatures widely dropped to around -7C so where snow turned to rain has had an additional impact on surfaces.

St Francis’ Catholic Primary School, Goosnargh, Preston will be closed for the entire day due to the roads around the school not being gritted.

The school is in an especially rural spot located off Horns Lane.

The weather warning for snow and ice will be in place for Preston until midday on Monday (5 January).

Temperatures are expected to warm slightly in the coming days, with them falling to a milder -1C overnight into Tuesday (6 January) and 1C by Wednesday (7 January).

No further snowfall is expected on Monday.
