Chorley Council has given the green light to a £4m refurbishment of one of the borough’s leisure centres.
The authority’s cabinet has approved the contract for the revamp of the All Seasons Leisure Centre, near the town centre.
The project will include an extensive upgrade of the gym facilities at the Water Street facility, including an expansion to create larger, more flexible spaces for weight training and resistance training. The larger floor area and mezzanine space is intended to accommodate new, state-of-the-art equipment.

Energy efficiency measures also form a key part of the scheme – backed by a government grant to help reduce carbon emission in the public sector. Work to install solar panels had already got under way shortly before Christmas, with enhanced insulation also to be rolled out.
The council says visitors will also benefit from a complete refurbishment of the wet-side changing village and dry-side changing rooms, including the shower facilities and toilets -ensuring a “more comfortable and modern environment for all users”.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service has asked the authority whether the leisure centre will have to close at any point during the works.
The contract for the overhaul was awarded to John Turner Construction Ltd. during a private session of a cabinet meeting held last week.
Members also approved a payment of £100k to neighbouring South Ribble Borough Council to purchase “surplus and unused decarbonisation equipment”.
