Preston-based filmmaker Grace Alwyn Ashworth is hoping her latest release will spark conversations around mental health.
Grace’s short film, GRIM, is a dark comedy that follows a grieving man whose plans to end his life are thwarted by the presence of a mysterious stranger with seemingly sinister motives.
Filmed in the North West by an entirely Northern crew, the film was released online earlier this month.
GRIM was produced by Preston-based production company Found Films in collaboration with the mental health organisation We Are Hummingbird.
Due to the sensitive topics of the film, We Are Hummingbird offered insight into the Dos and Don’ts of coping with a mental health crisis, as well as providing mental health first aid on set.

Having gone through the film festival circuit and collected awards including the Audience Choice Award at LA1 Shorts Festival and Best Picture at Soul 4 Reel International Film Festival, Grace feels that now it’s time for the world to see GRIM.
Grace, who wrote and directed the film, said: “I am so excited to finally be releasing GRIM online now that we’ve finished our festival run. Having witnessed the ripple effects of suicide in those I am close to, I want to raise awareness and open up the conversation around mental health.”

GRIM Production Designer, Robyn Saunders, said: “This entire production will forever hold such a special place in my heart. So excited for everyone else to see it!”
Award-winning actors Jack Holden and Sean McPherson star in this important film, which provides a lesson in what not to do when encountering someone who seeks to end their life.
