The Harris Open winner is crowned out of more than 400 artistic entries

Preston’s artistic talent was celebrated as The Harris Open returned to the city.

Winners of the community art celebration were also crowned at the event at The Harris on Saturday afternoon.

More than 400 pieces of art were judged by a panel including city mural artist Shawn Sharpe along with art expert Professor Peter Lloyd from the University of Lancashire and the Harris’ fine art curator team.

Minnie Kennedy-Parr was the winning entrant with her piece titled ‘How do you like me now?’.

Her artwork is number 295 in the art which adorns the walls of Gallery One on the second floor of the Harris.

Hundreds of people packed into the exhibition during Saturday to see the entries and hear who the winners were.

A second prize went to Martin Junju (number 207) for The Librarian and third prize was Stephanie Harlow (number 179) for I Thought You Were Dying.

A prize for the winning youth entry went to under-12s winner Leo Hague for his artwork Day in the life of the Ocean (Nature being destroyed everyday).

And the community group winner went to Kind Local for their Quilt of Kindness.

A People’s Choice winner will also be given out and decided by visitors to The Harris Open who have until 19 March to vote using the voting slips within the exhibition. The winner will be announced at an artists networking event on Thursday 19 March.

The Harris Open is free to visit and runs until Sunday 3 May.
