A new book focusing on Lancashire’s role in helping to create the modern world will be showcased in an event at The Harris.
Chris Moss released ‘Lancashire – Exploring the Historic County that Made the Modern World’ in February and will now appear at The Harris in Preston to talk about how he came to write the book.
It will be an opportunity to meet the author in person and have your copy of the book signed.

The event is being held on 23 April and will run from 6.30-7.15pm.
Chris Moss told Blog Preston: “It’s a massive honour to be able to present the book at The Harris. I’ve already done launches at the Book Stop bookstore in St Helens, at Samlesbury Hall and at Clarion House near Pendle Hill. At times, the book ‘tour’ feels a bit like retracing the journeys I made while writing it.
“It’s a mix of history, memoir and travel, in more or less equal portions. Some places I know and feel more than others. Some were part of my childhood. Preston, so integral to Lancashire’s deep past as the birthplace of motorways, the temperance movement and women’s football, and as the site of one of Europe’s truly outstanding Modern masterpieces in the bus station, is a key link in the chain of the county’s development. Yet, I must confess, it was often a bypassed town (long before it became a city) when I was taken to Southport and Blackpool on holidays.
“Re-visiting my homeland, and heartland, has taught me that everywhere matters in the story – including those places that were ‘administratively’ removed in 1974. I am sure we can discuss Lancashire’s complex past as well as its future together at the event.
“I was at The Harris on its big reopening day last September, when the stars were Wallace and Gromit and their creators. It is amazing to present a book on Lancashire in its Reading Room.”
Tickets are £5 and available to book here.
