A spokesperson for police said: “Throughout the morning, we have been carrying out searches at Preston Docks after receiving a concern for welfare call at 1.07am today (16th March) from a member of the public. These concerns related to the welfare of a man in his 20s.
“Working in conjunction with our colleagues from the fire and rescue service and underwater search colleagues, we can now confirm that a man’s body was found in the water mid-morning today.
“Following formal identification, we can now confirm that it is the same individual that welfare concerns had been raised for earlier this morning. The man’s family are aware of the devastating update and they are being supported by officers. Our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.
“The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to HM Coroner in due course.”
