A child was taken to hospital after being rescued by the fire service in Penwortham.

Emergency services were called to the scene off Leyland Road at around 3.46pm on Saturday (21 March) after a child had reportedly come off his bike and required rescue.

The fire service worked with a rope stretcher to rescue the child who was taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “At 15:46 hours on the 21st March 2026, three fire engines from Preston, Chorley and Penwortham, and the rope team from Bamber Bridge were sent to an incident in Penwortham, Preston.

“Fire crews used one rope rescue stretcher to rescue one casualty who was taken to hospital by Northwest Ambulance Service. Fire crews were in attendance for one hour and thirty minutes.”
