  • The group took part in workshops, an outdoor walk, model galaxy making and an evening stargazing session.
  • Pupils spotted constellations, a shooting star and Jupiter during the visit.
  • Staff said the trip helped build confidence and created lasting memories beyond the usual school routine.

Pupils from a Denton primary school enjoyed an overnight educational visit to The Sill National Landscape Discovery Centre in Northumberland, where a stargazing session became the standout moment of the trip.

The 28 Year 4 children from St Bede’s Catholic Primary School took part in a series of activities designed to take learning beyond the classroom. The visit included workshops, an outdoor walk and the chance to create a model galaxy before night fell.

The evening stargazing session was led by class teacher Anna Trow, who said the experience gave children the chance to engage with new activities in a different setting.

She said one of the main highlights was seeing pupils outside the classroom, building confidence and enjoying the range of activities on offer. During the session, the children spotted several constellations, a shooting star and the planet Jupiter.

Miss Trow said trips like this matter because they offer experiences that some children may not otherwise have. She added that they can create lifelong memories while also helping pupils explore the wider world in ways that are difficult to fit into the school day.

The stargazing session was a new addition to the school calendar and appears to have made a strong impression, with one final detail proving especially popular among the group: hot chocolate before bedtime.
