An attack on a teenage boy in Fishwick has seen additional stop and search police powers put in place throughout Saturday night.

A 15-year-old was attacked with a baseball bat during an assault in Bidston Street, which is to the south of New Hall Lane.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening but police say they are taking ‘incidents of this nature extremely seriously’.

The assault took place at 4.50pm on Saturday (18 April).

A Section 60 order has been placed on a swathe of Preston as a result by Lancashire Police.

It gives police additional powers until 3am on Sunday (19 April) to stop and search any person within the area shown on the map below. They can also remove face coverings.

The order can be extended and covers Brookfield, Moor Nook, Grange, Greenlands, Fishwick, Callon and St Matthews.

A police spokesperson said: “There are an increased number of officers in the area. Please don’t be concerned. They are there for reassurance and to ensure reports are investigated thoroughly.”

Police have been using Section 60, and Section 45 powers, with regularity across these estates in Preston for the past few months due to a number of attacks including a stabbing last month in Ingleton Road which police treated as attempted murder due to the ferociousness of the stab wounds involved.

The orders were used in January too when a teenage boy was stabbed in the arm – again in Ingleton Road in Ribbleton.

Anyone with information about the Bidston Street attack is asked to call police on 101 and quote log 1019 of 18 April 2026.

Or Crimestoppers can be contacted, in confidence, on 0800555111.
