Four candidates in the race to become the next UN Secretary-General are set to present their vision statements in interactive dialogues starting later on Tuesday.
The candidates will take questions from member states and civil society as part of the selection process.
Under the informal geographical rotation system, the candidates are from the Latin American and Caribbean bloc.
Among those presenting is former Chilean president Michelle Bachelet, who previously served as UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and as the first Executive Director of UN Women.
She will be followed by Argentinian diplomat Rafael Grossi, the current head of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
On Wednesday, former Costa Rican Vice President Rebeca Grynspan, now leading the UN Conference on Trade and Development, will present her vision, followed by Senegal’s former president Macky Sall.
The process comes amid renewed calls for the United Nations to appoint its first female Secretary-General.
The selection process is expected to continue through the year, with the UN Security Council set to make a recommendation to the General Assembly in the final quarter of 2026.
