The Garden Route District Municipality says a new case of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) has been identified on a small dairy farm at Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo.
This latest case is near Matjiesrivier in the Cango Valley, an area that’s still cut off due to rockfalls from the recent storms.
Dr Cathy Fox from the State Veterinary Service says this is the second positive case in the area.
Fox says samples collected from animals presenting minor lesions tested positive.
The farm has been placed under quarantine, and a biosecurity perimeter has been established to prevent further spread.
Neighbouring Mossel Bay in the Garden Route also has several farms under quarantine due to FMD.
