Three killed in head-on collision on N1 in Limpopo

Three people have been killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles on the N1 road at Botlokwa in Limpopo.

Police say the occupants of both vehicles died on the scene on Friday night.

A man and a woman were occupants of one vehicle and the other deceased man was a lone occupant and a driver.

Traffic authorities suspect unsafe overtaking as a possible cause of the collision.

Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says a police card was found inside the vehicle of the driver who was travelling alone.

“Police discovered one deceased occupant inside the Hyundai i20. The victim, who was alone in the vehicle, was certified dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel the deceased was reportedly found in possession of a police appointment card. Inside the Toyota Corolla Sprinter, rescuers found two occupants, a male and a female, trapped inside the wreckage. Emergency rescue teams used the jaws of life to extricate the victims from the vehicle. Both occupants were unfortunately certified dead at the scene.”
