Tens of thousands of bikers are set for one final ride in memory of The Hairy Biker Dave Myers.

Since beginning in 2024 the event has turned into the single-largest mass ride out in the UK and raised huge amounts of NSPCC Childline and other charities.

Preston’s motorway bridges across the M6 are packed for when Dave Day takes place.

This year’s ride is to be the last, branded as The Last Ride Home, and takes place on Saturday 20 June.

The bikers, who set off from London and head for Barrow, usually approach the bridges around Junction 28 for Leyland from lunchtime onwards and make their way up past the city’s junctions before beginning the final stretch towards Cumbria.

The ride is always headed by Dave’s fellow Hairy Biker, Si King.

Huge crowds pack the bridges with banners, flags and more to pay tribute to the more than 30,000 bikers who take part.

Dave, who died of cancer, aged 66, had strong links with Preston.

He studied art at Preston Polytechnic in the 1970s and in 2015 became an honorary fellow of the University of [Central] Lancashire.

Funding problems and the difficulties involved in arranging the event which takes at Barrow mean organisers said this would be the last time the Dave Day took place.
