Three firefighters killed in crash involving bus, fire truck

Three firefighters have died in a crash involving a bus, a municipal fire truck and a vehicle belonging to a community radio station.

The incident happened on Friday night when firefighters from the Ga-Segonyana local municipality in the Northern Cape were responding to a veld fire emergency.

They were en route to attend to a veld fire along the road between Mothibistad and Diamondview when the crash occurred.

Municipal Manager Martin Tsatsimpe has expressed sadness at the death of the three employees of its Fire and Disaster Unit.

“Unfortunately, en route to the scene, the accident occurred where there was a collision between the school bus, the private motor vehicle and our fire truck. It is a difficult moment for all of us in Ga Segonyana municipality in Kuruman. And also the municipality conveys the deep, sincere words of its condolences to the immediate family of the three deceased firefighters.”
