Man in his 50s died on railway line between Preston and Bolton

A man in his 50s died in the rail line between Preston and Bolton on Sunday afternoon.

British Transport Police confirmed they were called to the line near to Blackrod Station at 2.19pm on Sunday 7 June.

All rail services were suspended for five hours while emergency services worked at the scene following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Northern and Transpennine Express services were replaced by buses on the rail route between Preston and Manchester and Avanti services were also affected as they were using the route due to engineering works on the West Coast Mainline.
