The N2 Road in Dutywa, Eastern Cape, has been blocked, making it difficult for traffic to flow. This is due to a protest action by residents.
The reasons behind the demonstrations are unclear at the moment.
Provincial Transport spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, says the road has been blocked with burning tyres and rubble.
Binqose has advised motorists to use alternative routes while law enforcement agencies are attending to the matter.
“Yes, we can confirm. We don’t know whether it’s due to service delivery or other things. But the most important thing is that we advise road users, motorists in particular to avoid that stretch of the road and use alternative roads as directed by our law enforcement officers who are on the ground. The police have also been called in to defuse the situation and try to get traffic flowing again but as things stand that road is blockaded.”
