The National Freedom Party (NFP) has suspended KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Social Development Mbali Shinga with immediate effect. The party served her with a suspension letter after a special virtual National Executive meeting.

This comes after Shinga on Friday won a court interdict against her removal from the legislature and ordered the party to hear her appeal against her expulsion.
Shinga was expelled from the party after she defied an instruction to support a no-confidence vote against Premier Thami Ntuli in December. The party says Shinga’s suspension will remain in place until the National Working Committee decides on the matter.
