Over 700 people warmed up for Saturday’s World Cup action by taking on a walk to remember loved ones.

The annual Moonlight and Memories walk, organised by St Catherine’s Hospice, sees people take on a six or eight mile walk through Lostock Hall starting and finishing at St Catherine’s Park.

The event raises tens of thousands of pounds to support the work of St Catherine’s Hospice and marks the final major summer event in their summer events calendar.

Nikke Rolfe, community and events fundraising lead at St Catherine’s Hospice, said: “Although sponsorship is still coming in and it’s too early to confirm a final total, we already know the event was a huge success. You could see it in the faces of every single walker.

“Yes, the walk is about remembering loved ones who are no longer with us, but it’s about doing so with joy.

“The atmosphere was incredibly uplifting from start to finish — and that’s what makes this event so special. In our eyes, it truly is’ world-class’.”
