The peaceful march calling for tougher action against undocumented immigrants in Pretoria has ended.

Demonstrators led by the March and March movement marched from Church Square in the Pretoria CBD to the Sunnyside police station.

Organisers have commended participants for their disciplined conduct and the strong police presence for ensuring the protest remained peaceful.

Coordinator of March and March in the Tshwane region Sthembile Simelane says, “We are very happy that the station commander here in Sunnyside police station welcomed our memorandum, it was a resounding success I’m proud of Tshwane [residents] they came out in numbers. The message is one and the message is very clear, we march and march until we win.”

Meanwhile, thousands of protesters have also dispersed from Kwa Mai Mai following their demonstration through the streets of Johannesburg.

A large police contingent, deployed to monitor the march, remains stationed across the city to maintain calm.

Marchers made their way through several parts of Johannesburg, including Constitutional Hill, Berea, Yeoville, Hillbrow and Kwa Mai Mai.

The march proceeded smoothly, with no major incidents of violence or looting reported.

The only disturbances occurred in parts of Yeoville and Hillbrow, where stones were thrown.

However, police quickly brought the situation under control.

Throughout the route, shops and businesses remained closed, while metro police rerouted traffic.
