Simon Nisbet has received growing popularity online for his sketches of parts of Preston such as the Flag Market and the Harris Museum.

His next creative step will see him be a part of the restoration of the historic Walled Garden on Worden Park by producing artwork as part of the volunteer team.

The process of restoring the garden resonates with Simon and his work.

He said: “There are a lot of parallels, the garden is about preserving stories and creating new ones. That’s what I try to do with my artwork as well.”

Previously closed for years, the Walled Garden is set to become a community hub that aims to become a wellbeing, creative, heritage and educational space.

The restoration is being done by Rooted Connections CIC, co-founded by Matt Tyler.

He said: “We’re delighted that Simon has chosen to support the project and share his creativity as part of the growing volunteer community around the garden.”

Simon spent the last two years supporting vulnerable young people as a pupil support worker but is now focusing all his effort into capturing local spaces on a canvas.

He always enjoyed art growing up but responsibilities took him away from it during a lot of his adult life.

Dutch artist Albert Kiefer, known online as HouseSketcher helped inspire Simon to go back to his artistic side after more than two decades.

And to Simon’s surprise, he’s been able to start selling his works.

He said: “I’ve almost rediscovered it after 25 years. I genuinely didn’t think anyone would pay for my work.”
