The suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Human Resources Head, Linda Gxasheka, and former City Manager Imogen Mashazi are expected to apply for bail at the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

On Thursday, suspended head of legal services, Advocate Kemi Behari, and Ekurhuleni Metro Deputy Police Chief Julius Mkhwanazi were granted bail of R50 000 each.

The four have been charged with fraud and corruption. The three officials allegedly worked together to prevent Mkhwanazi from facing an internal disciplinary committee despite Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) recommendations.

Mkhwanazi was found to have unlawfully signed off on alleged criminal cartel member Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala’s vehicles to be fitted with blue lights.

Prosecutors told the court that they needed to verify Mashazi and Gxasheka’s residential addresses, as they had submitted more than one address.
