Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian says the United States (US) Government’s conduct both as World Cup co-host and in its foreign policy was about bending rules, bullying rivals, creating obstacles, and cheating.

Posting to social media platform X, the Iranian leader called it the MAGA playbook, saying Iran rejected such games.

His remarks come hours after the United States launched a series of strikes against Iran in an effort to impose heavy costs for what it described as the targeting and attacking of commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command said overnight that the strikes were in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz, calling Iran’s aggression unwarranted, dangerous and a clear violation of the ceasefire.

President Donald Trump, attending a NATO summit in Türkiye, declared that he viewed the interim agreement with Iran to end the war as “over” and that negotiating with Iran was a waste of time, threatening further strikes as soon as Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

He also referred to Iranian leadership as scum but said he’d allow negotiations to continue.
