A Newcastle NSPCC fundraiser welcomed the charity’s Chief Executive and Childline’s Deputy President to mark its 30th anniversary.
Chris Sherwood and Rebecca Wilcox were guests of honour at the NSPCC’s Ladies Summer Lunch, which took place at the Delta Hotels by Marriott at Gateshead on Friday (June 26).
Organiser Jan Pallas MBE has been the chair of NSPCC’s Newcastle branch since 1994 and has raised more than half a million pounds for the charity through fundraising events during that time.

Jan said:
“It’s always a pleasure to welcome more than 100 ladies from across the region to these wonderful and inspiring events, and I am delighted that both Chris and Rebecca were able to join us this summer.
“Along with our Christmas event, this lunch is one of the biggest fundraisers in the area. This year’s event included some fabulous live swing music from Alex Lomas, a terrific three-course lunch, and a raffle featuring amazing prizes kindly donated by local businesses.”
Chris Sherwood, NSPCC Chief Executive, said:
“It’s been an honour to attend this magnificent event, and I am very grateful to Jan, the rest of the Newcastle branch, and all our supporters.
“Jan has dedicated so much time and effort to supporting the NSPCC over the past 30 years, raising an incredible amount to help keep children safe.
“The NSPCC relies on public donations for the majority of its funding, so we are hugely grateful to fundraisers like Jan, whose support is invaluable.
“I’m very pleased to have attended this summer’s event and to have had the opportunity to express my thanks in person.”
Deputy Childline President Rebecca Wilcox, daughter of lifetime president and Childline founder Dame Esther Rantzen, said:
“I was delighted to be part of this special event. Fundraisers like Jan and the Newcastle branch play a vital role in helping Childline be there for children.
“It’s a privilege to follow in my mother’s footsteps and continue championing a service that provides someone who is there to listen and support so many young people.”
