Springbok winger, Canan Moodie, has underlined just how dangerous Scotland are on attack.
The versatile back will be on the wing for the Nations Championship second round clash against Scotland at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday, and he says the Scots are very well-rounded team.
One of the benefits of South Africa’s four franchises playing in the United Rugby Championship (URC) against Northern Hemisphere teams is that the players are very familiar with the steady rise of Scotland, at URC level, and also on the international stage.
Scotland’s win over Argentina in Cordoba in round one of the Nations Championship was true to the form the players have seen from the two Scottish teams in the URC, according to Canan Moodie.
“Very, very dangerous, very attack-minded team, and they have got the ballplayers to do that. So, we saw on the weekend against Argentina that they know how to play the ball wide. So, we have got our good prep and make sure we are ready for that.”
As part of the Bulls, Moodie has also seen plenty of the Scottish players in the past few years, particularly those who play for the Glasgow Warriors.
“Obviously, we played them not too long ago in the semi-finals and the majority of their team are from the Glasgow team. So, it does give us a good view of their attack and how their players like to play and we played against those guys. So, we have a better understanding of how they play and what they are trying to do.”
Moodie has been called into the Bok starting 15 to do the job against Scotland.
“Versatility is obviously a big thing here. So, for me this weekend, my job is on the wing and I will try my best to execute my job as best I can, be it at the high balls or the defensive structures or on attack. I think that is where I am needed this weekend, and I am happy to oblige and do the role as I need to do.”
After the impact the Bok back three of Damian Willemse, Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt-Lee Arendse made against England, the pressure will be on for Moodie against Scotland.
