The Federation of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA) has elected new leadership at its 8th National Congress in Kempton Park.

Refitlhile Baloyi from the Public Servants Association takes over the reins as the new FEDUSA President, succeeding Godfrey Selematsela.

Alongside him, Martlé Keyter and Waheed Hoosen were elected as Deputy Presidents.

All seven National Office Bearer positions were uncontested.

The newly elected President reflects on his immediate priority areas for FEDUSA.

“The first thing is to reorganise in the space of work in South Africa. It seems like we are losing, organising and unifying workers to come into unions and ultimately join federations, because we’ve got young people who seem to have lost interest in unions. The most transverse issue that is affecting everyone in our country is the rising of the cost of living. We have seen how the fuel has gone up, and that has a ripple effect so that will be of priority that through the forums and platforms we have. We start by addressing that there should be a relief.”
